Metrics and statuses

Every number in Teddit is a count over stored answers. This page gives the rule behind each number and each coloured square, so you can check any of them against the answers themselves.

What is decided for each answer

Each answer is one assistant’s reply to one prompt in one scan. When it arrives, Teddit reads the text and the list of sources and records the following.

VerdictRule
NamedThe text names your brand: its name, one of the site’s other names, or your domain. A name that appears only inside a link address does not count. If an answer is counted wrongly, add or remove other names in the site’s Settings and every stored answer is read again.
PlaceYour position among the brands named, in order of first appearance. Only you and your tracked competitors are counted. Empty when you are not named.
Named firstPlace 1: you are named, and no tracked competitor appears before you.
LinkedThe answer cites, or writes out, at least one address on your domain or one of its subdomains.
Competitors namedEach tracked competitor whose name, other names or domain appears in the text, read the same way as for you. A competitor counts once per answer, however often it is repeated.
TonePositive, neutral, mixed or negative, for answers that name you. See Tone of voice.
FailedThe assistant returned an error instead of an answer. A failed answer has no verdicts and is left out of every percentage, above and below the line.
Place only knows the brands you track. With no competitors on the site, every answer that names you counts as “named first”.

Verdicts are not frozen. When you change the brand name, the other names or the list of competitors, every stored answer is read again. A prompt that itself names your brand is marked Names your brand on the Prompts page: its answers usually repeat the name, so read its numbers with that in mind.

Naming you, linking to you

The numbers on the Dashboard describe a state, not a single scan. For the chosen period Teddit takes, for every prompt and every assistant, the latest successful answer collected before the period ended. A prompt that was not asked again in the period keeps the answer it last had.

Naming you = answers that name you ÷ answers
Linking to you = answers that link to you ÷ answers

Percentages are rounded to one decimal place.

  • The change next to a number compares it with the same count taken when the period began, which is the state at the end of the period before.
  • Your pages cited is the number of citations of your domain in those answers, repeats included, and the number of different pages they point at.
  • Paused prompts do not count. A paused prompt is not being watched, so its answers move no figure, on any page; resume it and they count again. An assistant you no longer scan still counts with the last answer it gave.

The chart By AI assistant is built differently. Each of its ten points is a share over the answers collected during that period only. A period without a scan repeats the state as it stood at its end, so the line does not break.

Share of voice

Share of voice is your part of all the times a tracked brand is named. It uses the same set of answers as the numbers above.

share of voice = answers naming you
                 ÷ (answers naming you + answers naming competitor A + answers naming competitor B + …)

An example with 40 answers:

Brightloop is named in 12 answers
Mailora is named in 20 answers
Quillsend is named in 16 answers

Brightloop: 12 ÷ (12 + 20 + 16) = 25%
  • A brand counts once per answer. One answer that names three brands adds one to each of them.
  • Brands you do not track are not in the sum. Adding a competitor that gets named lowers everybody else’s share.
  • With no competitors tracked, your share is 100% as soon as one answer names you.

The table on the Competitors page shows a different number: the share of answers that name each brand. In the example Brightloop is named in 12 of 40 answers, so it is named in 30% of answers, while its share of voice is 25%. The two numbers answer different questions: “how often am I there” and “how much of the naming is mine”.

On the Prompts page each prompt has its own share-of-voice bar. It is taken from the latest answer of each assistant to that prompt: the answers that name you, divided by that number plus the tracked competitors named in those answers.

Tone of voice

When a scan finishes, every answer that names you is judged by an AI model, which picks one of four values.

ToneMeaning
PositiveYou are recommended, praised or presented as a strong fit.
NeutralYou are listed or described factually, without a judgement.
MixedYou are both praised and criticised.
NegativeYou are criticised, dismissed or flagged as a poor fit.

The tone is about how your brand is described, not the mood of the whole answer. Each tone comes with the sentence from the answer that shows it best: that is the quote you see when you open the tone details. When no such sentence can be found in the answer, the answer stays without a tone rather than get a made-up one.

  • On the Dashboard, the strip “Tone when you are named” shows how the answers that name you split between the four tones. It covers active prompts only. Answers without a tone are left out of the split and counted next to it (“3 without a tone”), never as neutral.
  • On the Prompts page, each prompt shows the tone most of its latest answers take. On a tie, the less favourable tone is shown, so the prompt that needs a look stands out. A dash means no judged answer names you.

Tone is judged when a scan finishes, and also for the answers a cancelled scan or a scan stopped at its spending limit had already collected.

History squares

On the Prompts page every prompt has a strip of squares: one row per assistant, ten squares for the last ten periods, and one more square after a gap for the latest answer. Hover over a square to see its period and status.

ColourStatusRule for that assistant’s answer
strongest greenNamed first + linkedYou are the first brand named, and the answer links to your site.
middle greenNamed + linkedYou are named, but not first, and the answer links to your site.
weakest greenNamed or linkedOne of the two: named without a link, or linked without being named.
redCompetitors onlyYou are neither named nor linked, and at least one tracked competitor is named.
greyNot namedYou are neither named nor linked, and no tracked competitor is named either.
emptyNot scannedThe assistant has not answered this prompt yet.
  • A period’s square shows the assistant’s latest successful answer as that period ended. If the prompt was not asked again in a period, the square repeats the one before it.
  • The last square, after the gap, shows the latest attempt. If that attempt failed, it is drawn as “Not scanned”.
  • “Competitors only” depends on the competitors you track. An answer full of brands you do not track is “Not named”.

The Result filter above the list looks at the latest answers of all assistants together:

FilterShows prompts where
You are namedat least one assistant names you.
Competitors onlyno assistant names you or links to you, and at least one names a tracked competitor.
Linked, not namedat least one assistant links to your site, and none names you.
Not namedthe prompt has been answered, and no assistant names you or links to you.
Failed answersthe latest attempt of at least one assistant failed.

What changed

The Dashboard block What changed compares two states: the latest answers as the period began, and the latest answers as it ended. It looks at each prompt and each assistant separately.

  • Started naming you: the assistant’s answer names you now and did not before. A prompt answered for the first time, and naming you, is listed here too.
  • Stopped naming you: the assistant’s answer named you before and does not now.
  • The switch Linking to your site shows the same two lists for links.

Only active prompts are listed. A prompt that changed on three assistants is one row with three assistant marks.

The Trends page counts prompts won and lost per period in a coarser way. A prompt is won when at least one assistant names you in this period and none did in the period before, and lost the other way round.

Visibility score

The visibility score is one number from 0 to 100 that combines three things: how often you are named, how early you are named, and how often you are linked. It is computed over a set of answers, with failed answers left out.

  • Being named counts most, then your place among the brands named, then being linked.
  • Being first in a few answers cannot outweigh being absent from most.
  • Place counts only you and your tracked competitors, so with no competitors tracked you are always first when named.
  • A set with no answers scores 0. The score is 100 only when every answer names you first and links to your site.

Where it is shown:

  • Dashboard, chart By AI assistant, switch Visibility: one line per assistant, over each assistant’s own answers.
  • Trends, the chart “Week by week” (it is named after the period you chose), with Visibility score picked in its menu: the site as a whole, period by period.
  • Trends, table Visibility by week (or by the period you chose): one row per active prompt. A prompt’s score is taken over the latest answer of each assistant to that prompt as the period ended, and is shown as a whole number.
  • In the API and MCP it is the field visibility, and the per-prompt latest in the trends data.
The score is a summary. It is useful for seeing a direction at a glance, but two very different situations can give the same number. To know what actually happened, read the squares and the per-answer verdicts behind it.

Periods

The buttons Day, Week, Month and 3 months set how long one period is. All periods are cut in UTC.

ButtonOne period is
Daya calendar day, midnight to midnight UTC.
WeekMonday to Sunday. This is the default.
Montha calendar month.
3 monthsa calendar quarter: January to March, April to June, July to September, October to December.
  • The arrows and the date list next to the buttons move to an earlier period. The list starts at the period of your first answer. “Back to current” returns to the latest one.
  • The choice applies to the Dashboard, Prompts, Trends, Competitors and Pages screens. It is kept in the page address, so a link you share opens on the same period.
  • Charts and the history squares always show ten periods of the chosen length, ending at the chosen one.

A longer period does not add answers together. It moves the two moments that are compared: the state at the start of the period and the state at its end.
