Our way, week 0: AI assistants do not know Teddit (and think it is a Reddit front-end)

We track Teddit with Teddit and publish every step. The starting point: in 104 answers to buyer questions, not one named us, and when asked about Teddit by name, the assistants described a different product. Here are the numbers and what we changed the same day.

The Teddit teamWe build Teddit and run it on our own sites

Why we publish this

Teddit measures what AI assistants say about a brand. The most honest test of it is our own brand, measured in public: the same scans our customers run, the same numbers, and what we did about them. This series is that log. Week 0 is the starting point, before any of the work.

The setup

Site: teddit.io. Twenty prompts written the way a buyer asks an assistant: eighteen that do not name us (“What are the best tools to track how my brand appears in ChatGPT answers?”, “Is there an AI search visibility tool without a monthly subscription?”) and two that do (“What is Teddit…?”, “Is Teddit a good tool…?”). Twelve competitors tracked. Six assistants: ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, each on its default low-cost model, with web search on, in English, as from the United States.

One scan on 15 October 2026: 120 answers asked, 115 collected (five Google AI Overview lookups failed and were not charged). The scan cost $4.13 at Teddit’s prices.

Questions without our name: zero

Across the 104 collected answers to the eighteen prompts that do not name us, Teddit was named 0 times and teddit.io was linked 0 times. None of the 31 pages of our site was cited.

That is the real visibility: a buyer who asks an assistant for a tool like ours does not hear about us.

Questions with our name: the wrong Teddit

Eleven answers to the two prompts that name us were collected. Ten of them talk about Reddit: there is an open-source Reddit front-end that is also called Teddit, and that is what the assistants described. None of the eleven mentions teddit.io.

A count of mentions on branded prompts can flatter. Our own dashboard first showed these ten answers as mentions of Teddit: the name was there, the product was not. Read the answers to branded prompts before trusting their numbers.

Who is named instead

Two things stand out: the competitors’ own sites are among the most cited, and so are Reddit threads and YouTube videos about tools like ours.

What we changed the same day

  • The site’s title and structured data now say what Teddit is (AI visibility tracking) and that it is not the Reddit front-end; an About page and a question on the home page say it in plain words.
  • Pages for the questions buyers asked in this scan: the six assistants we cover, including AI Overviews and AI Mode; agencies with many clients; pricing that says pay as you go, with no subscription.
  • Comparison pages with the other tools’ prices, coverage, API and MCP, each fact linked to the tool’s own site.
  • Every page of the site is now sent to the search engines that take IndexNow, Bing among them, after each update.

Next on the list: the site in Bing Webmaster Tools, whose index ChatGPT’s search relies on; our MCP server in the MCP directories; and company profiles on the sites assistants check.

What we will measure next

The same twenty prompts, the same six assistants, every week. Week 1 will show whether the assistants still mistake us for the Reddit front-end, and whether teddit.io has started to appear among the sources. We will publish the numbers either way.
